Who Is Nanny J?

Hey there! I’m Nanny J but you can call me Jess.

What are the first things people typically list in a “let’s get to know you” conversation? I love ice cream. I had an appendectomy when I was 6 years old. I enjoy sports, and in true Seattleite fashion I am a coffee addict.

All of those things happen to be true, but I’d love for you to get a glimpse of the real me.

First, and most important to me, I am a follower of Jesus Christ. I believe he loves me in a personal and unfathomable way and therefore calls and enables me to deeply love others. This blog is an extension of that desire as I hope to provide encouragement to nannies, parents, and anyone who spends time around children.

Second, I am a wife. I married my high school sweetheart in 2011 three months after my 19th birthday. I know what you’re probably thinking… “Is she crazy?!” Well, maybe a little, but marrying my husband was without a doubt one of the best and least crazy things I’ve ever done! Almost 6 years later he is my best friend and biggest supporter. Without him, I probably wouldn’t have had the courage to start this blog.

Third, and most likely the reason you’re here, I am a nanny. I started nannying in 2011 just a few months before my wedding. Other than a brief and miserable stint working at a grocery store, I have been nannying either part-time or full-time ever since. I absolutely LOVE my job. Although weekly emotions can range from frustrated exhaustion to overwhelming joy, I wouldn’t trade any of it!

I come from a family full of teachers and childcare providers so I suppose it’s in my blood. Growing up in church gave me years and years of classroom and babysitting experience. Those opportunities provided me with the know-how to begin my journey as a nanny, and I’m telling you, it HAS been a journey.

Throughout the last several years I have worked everywhere from 9 hours a week to my record 53 hours in one week. I have cared for sweet little ones 3 and a half months old to sweet big ones 8 years old and literally every age in between. I’ve participated in a nanny share during which I cared for 5 kiddos from 3 different families. I have been a mother’s helper for infant triplets. Currently, I am a full-time nanny for 2 adorable little girls ages 2 and 4. I share all of these “stats” if you will, not to sound impressive but simply to illustrate the wide variety of experiences I have had in my years as a nanny.

Like you, I enjoy reading various blog posts on how to better love and nurture the little ones in my care. It came to my attention that while there seem to be billions of “mommy blogs”, it’s difficult to find any geared toward nannies or parents who have incorporated a nanny into their family. After so many years as a nanny, I have learned some incredibly valuable lessons that I am dying to share with you! My hope is that this blog can be a helpful resource to both nannies and parents as they seek to provide their kids with a childhood that is safe, fun, and full of love!

Thanks for joining me on this adventure!
